After very clear instructions from the coach to expect a tough physical game, all Coach Ro asked was for the girls to play the clean, high standard of netball they have been for the whole season.
The team knew the Imperials were going to try their hardest to rattle the Kangas and disrupt their impressive settled routine.
It did take the first quarter for the Kangas to get some nervous throws out of the way. A quarter time break was needed to let the girls know that all they had to do was stay focused and they would soon see results.
That is exactly what happened! Isobel and Sienna were creating intercepts and rebounds all game giving the girls a chance for turnovers. Maddi and Regan found their groove together and began shooting beautifully as the Kangas started to get a small lead.
Mia controlled the steady pace in the centre and acted like a true captain with supportive communication to both ends. Lucy and Bridie worked incredibly hard in the mid court, both getting turnovers at crucial times. Milly O’Shannessy came on with clear instructions to create some space and give the Kangas a chance to reset and settle. Milly absolutely nailed her role. Brooklyn was on standby for the defenders, and all though didn’t get on the court it was nice to know we had her as back up when needed.
The Kangas last quarter was truly incredible. Accurate shooting, perfect feeding and tight defence, everyone got to watch the strong unity of this spectacular team. Every player has worked so hard to get to where they are this season and the way they played in this grand final was proof of that.
The club couldn’t be prouder of this incredible team and it was so much fun watching the pure joy they experienced by taking out the flag. Absolutely deserved.
