The crowd was electric with an enormous percentage of them barracking for the mighty Kangas.
The girls trotted on the court with absolute poise and a nothing to lose attitude. Right from the get go, they came out absolutely firing. Every single player on that court was in the zone and played with confidence, backing themselves with every pass. There were minimal mistakes from the Kangas through the whole game.
Wentworth were rightfully the favourites as they were undefeated but it was hard to tell that on the day. Maggie Smith was inspirational in the goals with her strong grabs and accurate shooting. Catherine worked beautifully in the ring with some impressive shooting and even better feeding to Maggie. Megan was extraordinary in WA, with her fast pace leaving her opponent looking lost and completely shut down. Tsharni Burns was exactly what was needed to defend in the midcourt. Her netball smarts and athletic leaps are truly intimidating and at times making it impossible for the opposition to clear and get the ball down their end. Kyra’s leadership down the centre was the direction needed and helped down the court. Esther and Casey provided some of the strongest defence ever seen.
The Wentworth goalies were unable to score one easy goal, and they were forced to work hard for every pass as the Kangas managed to create held balls at times.
It was so exciting to see Ellen cut her Europe trip short to take part in the final with her teammates, and the crowd went wild as she took the court. Bree Barker was a settling rolling sub, creating space and feeding beautifully. The support these legends got from the crowd was so uplifting and proves how loved they all are.
What an inspirational team to watch and great examples for the juniors with the Under 9’s and Under 11’s thrilled to present their idols with the premiership medals at the end of the game. Something they will remember forever.
The Kangas couldn’t have scripted it any better.
Words genuinely can’t describe how well this team played in the most important game of the season. What a delight to watch and who would have thought!!!!!!!!
